The reigning world champions, the U.S. Women's National Hockey Team, won't be defending their title this year. They announced Wednesday that they will be boycotting the championships later this month as a protest against USA Hockey, citing stalled negotiations for "fair wages and equitable support" from the organization. And to show solidarity with the women team, the U.S. men’s hockey team will also boycott their World Championships.
The NHL Players Association seems to also stand with the teams as they stated the following as a response to USA Hockey trying to find replacement players: "It is important that the best American women players be on the ice for the world championship and the notion of seeking replacement players will only serve to make relations, now and in the future, much worse."
According to SB Nation, USA Hockey's latest attempts have apparently come to Under-16 teams — yes, they’ve reached out to kids — to play against professional hockey players in just a few days time.
Here at isplack, we are all about uniting teams. So, U.S. Women's and Men's National Hockey Teams - if you all need to Get Your Colors On in solidarity, give us a call. We stand united with you.
